In what may be the equivalent in boxing of hitting a man after the bell has rung, Anonymous is threatening to hit Sony hard Jan. 23, 2012, for its support of the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) -- this despite SOPA's apparent momentum loss.

Amid White House opposition and an apparent "hold" placed on the legislation by Virginia Republican Eric Cantor, the focus has shifted from the House's Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) to its Senate companion, the Protect IP Act (PIPA). Given piracy is a real problem, what -- if anything -- will the Internet industry eventually support?

This week the U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Committee discussed the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), a proposal that would give the U.S. Government new tools to fight the online sale of infringing or counterfeit goods. While on the surface it sounds like a good idea, the act has serious security issues that should be considered before we allow our government to change the way we access information via the Internet.
